Valencia Bar Homicide: 62-Year-Old Owner Turns Himself In After Allegedly Killing 20-Year-Old Compatriot
On the morning of August 5th, a bar in the Marítim district of Valencia became the scene of a homicide. A 62-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of killing a 20-year-old youth inside the establishment. Shockingly, the suspect is the owner of the bar and personally called the police to confess after the crime.
Suspect’s Confession and Police Response
The incident occurred on Monday morning, August 5th. Around 9:30 AM, the 091 emergency hotline of the National Police (Policía Nacional) received a call from the 62-year-old suspect, who confessed to the murder.
Following the call, the National Police’s Homicide Group (Grupo de Homicidios) and Forensic Police (Policía Científica) were dispatched to the scene on Calle de los Hierros. Upon arrival, officers secured the area and arrested the suspect.
Suspect and Victim Profile
Initial investigations have confirmed that the 62-year-old arrested man is the operator of the bar, “La Esquina Tropical,” which specializes in Colombian cuisine. The victim, only 20 years old, was also of Colombian nationality, a fellow countryman of the suspect.
Police discovered the victim’s body inside the bar. According to the preliminary investigation, the cause of death was severe head trauma, and the weapon is believed to be a blunt metal object. This finding aligns with the suspect’s initial confession of using violent means.
Scene Secured for In-Depth Investigation
The Homicide Group of the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade of Valencia (Grupo de Homicidios de la Brigada Provincial de Policía Judicial de Valencia) has officially taken over the case. To preserve the crime scene for evidence collection, police have cordoned off the bar and its surroundings, placing a screen at the entrance to block the view from outside.
The Forensic Police unit is conducting a detailed examination of the scene to gather all possible evidence, reconstruct the sequence of events, and determine the motive. Neighbors expressed shock at the sudden incident, confirming the suspect was the bar owner but stating they had no knowledge of his motive or the specific relationship with the victim. The investigation is now focused on clarifying the relationship between the two individuals and the exact reasons that led to this tragedy.
