A recent mass Salmonella infection has been traced to a restaurant in Oviedo, the capital of the Asturias region in Spain. According to official information from health authorities, the outbreak has led to 25 individuals showing symptoms and seeking medical care.
Currently, 13 of the infected individuals, including 12 adults and one child, remain hospitalized at the Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA). Additionally, two other related individuals are under medical observation.
Patient Conditions and Outbreak Trend
Health officials have revealed that laboratory tests confirmed Salmonella infection in all patients. Fortunately, all hospitalized individuals are in stable condition and showing positive signs of recovery.
Over the past night, local hospital emergency departments have not admitted any new suspected cases, suggesting the spread may be under initial control. However, authorities caution that the emergence of new cases in the coming days cannot be ruled out.
Official Response and Source Investigation
Following the incident, public health authorities promptly activated emergency protocols and launched an investigation. As a precautionary measure, all food items potentially linked to the source of the infection have been ordered to be removed from sale, secured, and recalled to prevent further spread.
A thorough hygiene inspection of the involved restaurant is currently underway. Authorities are working to trace the specific contaminated food and the origin of the infection to determine responsibility and prevent future occurrences.
