Man’s Collapse on Street Triggers Investigation
Around noon on the day of the incident, Barcelona’s city police (Guàrdia Urbana) received a public report of a traffic accident on Almansa Street (Calle de Almansa) in the Nou Barris district. However, upon arrival, police and paramedics found a Spanish man with a deep stab wound to his face and numerous defensive wounds on his arms, injuries inconsistent with a typical traffic accident. Medical personnel performed emergency resuscitation at the scene for nearly an hour before transferring him to a nearby hospital, but the man ultimately succumbed to his severe injuries and excessive blood loss.
Blood Trail Leads to Crime Scene Apartment
According to eyewitnesses, the victim, already injured, had staggered from the direction of Casals Street (Calle de Casals) to Almansa Street, attempting to get on his personal motorcycle to leave. However, due to significant blood loss, he collapsed and lost consciousness. The Catalan regional police (Mossos d’Esquadra) took over the investigation, following the blood trail back from the street, which eventually led them to the primary crime scene: a residence at 41 Casals Street.
Suspect Arrested in Suspected Crime of Passion
As the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) and the forensic unit of the Catalan police conducted a thorough examination of the residence, the nature of the case became clearer. Preliminary evidence suggests it was a violent incident stemming from a romantic dispute. Police suspect the victim was attacked in his ex-girlfriend’s home by the woman and her current boyfriend.
Authorities have now arrested one male suspect in connection with the crime. Due to a gag order issued by the local judiciary, key details about the arrested suspect, such as his nationality, age, and criminal history, have not been released. According to statistics, this tragedy marks the 13th violent death in Barcelona this year, once again drawing widespread public concern over local safety and violent crime issues.
