The Incident: A Fall from the 12th Floor After an Argument
The incident took place at the Torre Madrid building in the center of Palma, Spain. The 21-year-old man reportedly took this extreme action in a state of emotional distress following a heated argument with his partner.
Shortly before the incident, a neighbor noticed the young man alone on the building’s roof, which was supposed to be locked, and approached him. The man said he had just argued with his partner. Although the neighbor immediately notified the building’s concierge, the man had already jumped by the time the concierge unlocked the door to the roof.
A Miraculous Survival and Innocent Victims
The man fell from the 12th-floor height, his fall cushioned by a large tree before he landed on the outdoor terrace of a café below. Two young patrons seated at a table on the terrace were unfortunately struck by him.
All three were rushed to the local Son Espases Hospital. The man who fell miraculously survived but remains in the intensive care unit (ICU) with severe injuries. Of the two patrons he hit, one suffered a broken leg and the other sustained minor injuries. One of the injured patrons has reportedly been discharged from the hospital and is in stable condition.
Police Investigation and Identification
The initial investigation was complicated as the man was not carrying any identification. The National Police Corps (Cuerpo Nacional de Policía) eventually identified him after interviewing multiple witnesses and conducting a thorough investigation.
It was confirmed that the man is a 21-year-old resident of Palma, though not a resident of the building where the incident occurred. After identifying him, police also located his ex-girlfriend and confirmed her safety. The National Police Corps continues to investigate the specific details and handle the follow-up on the case.
