Early Morning Shooting, Police Cordon Off the Scene
Around 0:51 AM this Thursday, the quiet of the night was broken on Riells Street in Barcelona’s Nou Barris district. According to police reports, several residents called to report hearing continuous gunshots. The Catalan Police (Mossos d’Esquadra) were dispatched and quickly sent a large number of officers to cordon off the area.
A preliminary search of the scene revealed that the shooting did not result in any injuries. The case has now been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Nou Barris police station. Investigators are on-site, carefully searching for key evidence such as shell casings, in an attempt to reconstruct the event and identify the shooter and their escape route. As of the time of publication, police have not arrested any suspects nor have they released any details about the motive for the shooting.
Series of Incidents in the Neighborhood Raises Security Concerns
Notably, this is not an isolated incident in the area recently. Records show that on August 9th, at 4:50 AM, a very similar incident occurred on Almansa Street, another street in the Nou Barris district. At that time, an unidentified individual also opened fire on the street, fortunately without injuring any bystanders.
Two late-night street shootings in the same district within just a few days, with the perpetrators still at large, have undoubtedly heightened tensions in the local community. Residents have expressed strong concerns about the deteriorating safety of their living environment.
Homicide Shadow Looms as Police Investigate Connections
In addition to the series of shootings, the overall security situation in the Nou Barris district has become particularly complex recently. Just last Thursday, on the same street where this shooting occurred, a fatal stabbing took place. A victim died in a violent conflict, and police subsequently arrested a man in connection with the case.
In response to public speculation about whether the recent violent incidents are related to gang wars or a series of retaliations, the Catalan Police provided an initial assessment. They emphasized that the current evidence does not support a direct link between last week’s fatal stabbing and the two recent shootings. The special task force has pledged to continue investigating leads to uncover the true motives behind the shootings and bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible.
