Violent Attack Sparked by Kitchen Triviality
Around 11:30 PM on Wednesday, August 12, local time, in a shared residence in the Son Cladera neighborhood of Palma, Spain, a dispute over the ownership of a kitchen item quickly escalated into violence. The female victim stated to the police that she shared the flat with two brothers and had ongoing friction with one of them, a 44-year-old man. That evening, the man accused her of taking his kitchen supplies, then suddenly grabbed her by the hair and violently threw her to the ground.
Pursuit, Assault, and Forced Entry
To escape the continuous attack, the victim crawled down the hallway toward her bedroom, but the attacker did not stop, chasing and repeatedly hitting her. After she managed to get into her room and lock the door, the man continued his violent behavior, ramming the door so forcefully that part of the frame came off the wall. After breaking the door open, the man rushed into the room, pounced on the woman who had fallen again, and issued death threats. She fought back, eventually forcing her attacker to stop and leave the room.
Police Intervention and Suspect’s Arrest
After a call to the 092 emergency number, officers from the Palma Local Police’s Comprehensive Security Unit (USEI) quickly arrived at the scene. Police noted that the victim showed signs of pain on her forearm, caused by using her arm to defend herself during the attack. Additionally, the severe damage to the bedroom door corroborated the gravity of her testimony. The arrested man’s brother confirmed to the police that the two frequently argued, but stated he was not at home when the incident occurred.
Suspect’s Statement and Charges
During police questioning, the 44-year-old suspect admitted to arguing with and pushing his female housemate, but he denied the sustained assault and forcibly entering her bedroom. However, based on the victim’s detailed statement, her injuries, and the clear evidence of the damaged door frame, police ultimately arrested the man on suspicion of multiple charges, including threats, trespassing, minor property damage, and assault. The case is under further investigation.
