Incident Overview and Emergency Response
On the morning of Monday, August 17, 2026, a serious collision occurred on the Alicante TRAM. The incident took place on Line 1 within the municipality of La Vila Joiosa, specifically on the section between the Villajoyosa and Creueta stations.
Emergency services were alerted at 10:25 AM. The Alicante Provincial Firefighters Consortium quickly dispatched a unit from Benidorm to the scene. Reports indicated that a woman was hit by the tram on the tracks and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported among passengers or elsewhere.
Official Investigation and Victim Information
Following the incident, the Spanish Civil Guard (Guardia Civil) has taken over the scene and initiated a full investigation into the cause of the accident. Judicial police and a forensic team conducted evidence collection and examination at the site before the victim’s body was removed from the tracks.
Sources from the emergency services stated that, as of the time of reporting, the identity of the deceased woman has not yet been confirmed, and identification procedures are ongoing.
Traffic Impact and Service Restoration
The incident forced a suspension of service on Alicante TRAM Line 1 (L1). This line is a major public transport route connecting Luceros square in central Alicante with the popular tourist town of Benidorm. The accident halted traffic in both directions for nearly three hours.
The line’s operator, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV), immediately notified the public about the service disruption and apologized for the inconvenience. Following emergency response and site clearance, tram services in the affected section were fully restored at approximately 1:00 PM the same day.
