Huelva Shooting Spree: Three Generations Fall Victim
Around 10 PM on a recent evening, a horrific shooting occurred in the El Rocío neighborhood of Isla Cristina, Huelva. Two masked men arrived on a motorcycle, with one opening fire on a crowd at close range with a long gun, resulting in three deaths and two injuries. The victims included a 39-year-old woman who was eight months pregnant, her 62-year-old mother, and a 16-year-old boy with no connection to the feud. Additionally, an 18-year-old youth was seriously injured in the incident.
According to the investigation, the assailants fled quickly after the attack, burning their motorcycle in a nearby pine forest in an attempt to destroy evidence. The local mayor, Jenaro Orta, described the scene in an interview as ‘hell on earth,’ noting the incident has caused immense fear and shock in the community.
Blood for Blood: A Two-Year Family Feud
The investigation by Spain’s Guardia Civil indicates that the shooting is the culmination of a long-standing conflict between two families, tracing back to a murder in the El Torrejón neighborhood of Huelva in September 2024. In that previous case, a man was shot and killed. The victim was the brother-in-law of Manuel, nicknamed ‘El Baba,’ who was named the primary suspect.
After being on the run for several months, Manuel was eventually arrested in Gijón, Asturias. The court ordered him to be held in provisional custody without bail on charges of murder and attempted murder. The two women killed in the Isla Cristina attack were Manuel’s mother and sister, making the retaliatory nature of this latest crime starkly clear.
Cycle of Violence: Uncontrolled Revenge and Security Lapses
Since the 2024 murder, retaliatory actions between the two families have been continuous. Some family members involved had moved from Huelva to Isla Cristina seeking refuge, but this did not stop the spread of hatred.
In May 2025, the Guardia Civil conducted a special operation in the area, seizing shotguns, handguns, a large amount of ammunition, and over €58,000 in cash, leading to the arrest of three individuals. However, two of the adult suspects were later granted provisional release by the court, failing to curb the conflict at its root.
Just one month later, in June 2025, another retaliatory shooting occurred, resulting in one death and one injury. This latest triple homicide marks a new, more extreme and brutal phase in the family vendetta.
Manhunt and Stabilization Under Judicial Secrecy
Currently, the investigation into this triple murder is under a judicial secrecy order, meaning no details of the investigation are being disclosed to the public. The Guardia Civil is in a full-scale manhunt for the two fugitive masked gunmen.
Meanwhile, local authorities have significantly increased security presence in the neighborhood to prevent further retaliation. The authorities face a severe challenge: bringing the perpetrators to justice swiftly while also working to restore social order and public confidence torn apart by the bloody violence.
