A Dangerous Discovery in the Sweltering Heat
Recently, a distressing incident occurred in the southern Spanish city of Seville, placing an infant in grave danger. With outside temperatures approaching 40°C, a passerby heard a baby crying continuously from a car parked in direct sunlight. The witness observed that the car’s doors and windows were fully closed, with only one window left slightly ajar. Realizing the critical nature of the situation, they immediately called the police for help.
Emergency Police Rescue
Officers from the National Police (Policía Nacional) arrived at the scene promptly. Looking through the car window, they saw the baby’s face was flushed red and its clothes were soaked with sweat, showing clear signs of discomfort and heat stress. Aware that the temperature inside a closed, sun-exposed vehicle can rise at an alarming rate and pose a direct threat to the infant’s life, the police decided to take immediate action by forcibly opening a car door to rescue the child.
Infant Hospitalized as Parents Return
After being rescued, the baby was immediately taken by ambulance to a nearby medical center for a full examination to check for any heat-related injuries. Shortly thereafter, the child’s parents returned to the vehicle. They explained to the police that they had only gone to a nearby supermarket for a “quick shopping trip.” However, their actions had already placed their child in extreme danger.
Facing Legal Charges
For leaving the infant alone in a hot car, the parents were arrested on the spot on suspicion of the crime of child abandonment (delito de abandono de un menor). The case has now entered judicial proceedings. Authorities will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact length of time the baby was left alone and the extent of the physical harm, holding the parents legally accountable. This incident serves as another stark reminder to the public to never leave a child unattended in a vehicle under any circumstances.
