New Route Connects Galicia with the Costa Blanca
Spain’s aviation market is getting a new player. Fly2Galicia, a new airline based in Santiago de Compostela, recently announced Alicante as one of its inaugural destinations. The direct flight, set to launch on December 3rd, aims to strengthen connections between Galicia and key European economic and tourist hubs.
Operating Three Times a Week
According to the published schedule, the Alicante-Santiago route will operate three round trips per week on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Flights from Santiago will depart at 10:50 on weekdays and 07:00 on weekends. Return flights from Alicante are scheduled for 13:15 on weekdays and 09:25 on weekends. To attract passengers, the airline has introduced a highly competitive pricing strategy, with one-way tickets starting from just €20.
Filling a Market Gap
The launch of this new route addresses a long-standing connectivity problem in the region. Previously, Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair significantly reduced its capacity at Santiago airport following disagreements with Spain’s airport operator, Aena, over local airport fees. Although Vueling briefly operated the route in 2025, currently only Ryanair offers limited service during the peak tourist season. Fly2Galicia’s entry breaks this seasonal limitation, establishing the first year-round, regular connection between the two cities.
Initial Network Covers Eight Domestic and International Destinations
As a new airline dedicated to addressing Galicia’s historical connectivity needs, Fly2Galicia’s strategic plan includes key cities for tourism, business, and international exchange. In addition to Alicante, its initial route network covers seven other major domestic and international cities: Granada and Zaragoza in Spain, as well as Venice and Milan in Italy, Prague in the Czech Republic, Munich in Germany, and Brussels in Belgium. This extensive network will further enhance the region’s capacity as an aviation hub.
