Incident Overview: 9 Customers Infected, 6 Hospitalized

Recently, a mass food poisoning incident occurred at a bar in the Old Town of Pamplona, the capital of the Chartered Community of Navarra, Spain. According to reports, nine customers have experienced physical illness so far. Six of them, suffering from more severe symptoms, were diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis and have been admitted to the Hospital Universitario de Navarra for inpatient treatment.
In addition, three other diners exhibited related symptoms after consuming food at the same bar and received medical care. The common factor among all affected individuals is that they consumed a food item containing egg ingredients provided by the establishment.
Source Investigation: Suspicion Points to Egg Products
Based on preliminary epidemiological investigations, the source of infection in this food poisoning outbreak strongly points to an egg-containing product sold at the bar in question. All patients shared the experience of consuming this specific food, constituting a clear source of exposure. In high summer temperatures, eggs and egg products, if improperly stored or undercooked, easily become breeding grounds for pathogens like Salmonella, thereby triggering large-scale food poisoning.
Official Response: Full Intervention by Health Authorities
Following the incident, the health department of the Navarra government reacted swiftly. The Instituto de Salud Publica y Laboral de Navarra has fully taken over the investigation of the case. Health inspectors are collecting evidence at the scene, with the investigation covering ingredient procurement and storage, food processing procedures, and the overall hygiene conditions of the kitchen.
Follow-up Measures: Sample Testing and Risk Warnings
Currently, the health department has extracted relevant food samples from the bar and sent them to a laboratory for urgent testing, aiming to identify the specific pathogen causing this poisoning incident as soon as possible. Officials stated that necessary administrative and health interventions will be taken based on the investigation and test results to control the spread of the outbreak and prevent similar incidents from recurring. At the same time, they remind citizens and catering practitioners to pay strict attention to food safety during the hot season, particularly regarding the standard handling of high-risk ingredients such as eggs and meat.
