They then quickly pried open a side window of the museum and completed the heist in about four minutes.
The stolen ‘Treasure of Villena’ (Tesoro de Villena) is one of Europe’s most important collections of Bronze Age gold, dating back to 1000 BC. The collection weighs nearly 10 kilograms and includes over 60 items made of gold, silver, and amber, such as golden bowls and bracelets. In this theft, the vast majority of the treasures were stolen, with only a few silver items and a single diadem left behind. The Spanish Civil Guard has launched an investigation, but the artifacts of incalculable historical value remain missing.
Housing Prices Hit Record High Amidst Market Divergence
According to data released by Spain’s General Council of Notaries in August 2026, the national average price for housing surpassed €2,100 per square meter in June for the first time, setting a new historical record that even exceeds the peak of the 2008 real estate bubble. However, the market is showing a peculiar divergence between sales volume and price trends. Despite rising mortgage rates increasing the cost of homeownership, home sales in the first half of the year fell by 7.7% year-on-year, yet prices continued to climb steadily.
The price increase is not uniform, with significant regional disparities. Only seven autonomous communities, including Madrid, Catalonia, and the Balearic Islands, saw prices reach new historical highs, while growth in other regions was limited.
