A dog school and boarding kennel in the municipality of Navalcarnero, in the Community of Madrid, is under investigation by the Guardia Civil for suspected severe animal abuse. The operation was launched following multiple reports from local residents, ultimately exposing the shocking conditions inside the facility.
Resident Tips Uncover Abuse
The investigation began with persistent alerts from nearby residents. Whistleblowers reported observing dogs at the center living in extremely poor conditions, suffering from malnutrition, injuries, parasitic infections, and a lack of essential food and water. These reports prompted a serious response from law enforcement, leading the Guardia Civil to take action.
Police Raid Reveals Shocking Scene
Acting on the tips, the Guardia Civil conducted a surprise inspection of the center. Officers on site confirmed “very serious” deficiencies in the facility’s hygiene and animal care standards. During the inspection, they found 46 living dogs, most in poor health. Tragically, inspectors also discovered the body of one deceased dog on the premises.
Rescued Dogs in Critical Condition, Rushed to Vets
Due to the urgency of the situation, nine of the 46 rescued dogs were immediately rushed to a veterinary center for emergency treatment, suffering from critical symptoms such as extreme emaciation, severe anemia, and dehydration. The remaining dogs were also diagnosed with various illnesses, weakness, parasitic infestations, and injuries of varying degrees. All rescued animals have now been transferred to several animal protection agencies for ongoing care and rehoming.
Center’s Complex History and Managers Investigated
Police have identified the two managers of the center as suspects. The men, Spanish nationals aged 45 and 50, will face charges of animal cruelty. Notably, this infamous kennel not only offered boarding services for pet owners on holiday but also previously held contracts with several municipal governments to house stray and abandoned animals in the region. After the news broke, some pet owners who were away on vacation contacted the police, stating they had no idea their pets were being kept in such conditions. The dog center has since been shut down, and the case remains under investigation.
