Massive Drug Shipment Disappearance Sparks Double-Cross
A vicious kidnapping case surrounding a massive missing drug shipment was recently solved in Catalonia. The case originated from a cross-border drug transport deal. A drug trafficking mastermind commissioned a middleman to transport over 500kg of cocaine from Portugal to Spain. The middleman then hired another driver to carry out the actual transport.
However, the driver had other ideas during the trip. He faked a robbery by another criminal gang, then absconded with the drugs and vanished. Unable to account for the drugs’ whereabouts to the mastermind, the unlucky middleman became the primary suspect in a perceived double-cross.
Ten Days of Captivity and Brutal Torture
According to the investigation, the incident occurred at the end of July. The enraged drug mastermind blamed the middleman for everything and kidnapped him. During a ten-day-long captivity, the victim was held in an industrial warehouse in Sabadell, Barcelona province, where he endured continuous torture and death threats. The kidnappers’ goal was clear: to force him to reveal the whereabouts of the driver who had taken the drugs.
Police Locate Target and Launch Rescue Operation
The Spanish National Police (Policía Nacional) launched an in-depth investigation after receiving a tip-off. Through meticulous detective work, the police successfully pinpointed the exact location of the industrial warehouse used to hold the hostage. Just as the police were deploying their operation, the kidnappers seemed to sense the danger and decided to move the hostage.
The kidnappers forced the badly injured victim into a car, falsely claiming they were taking him to a remote mountainous area to be released. However, their true intentions were unknown, and the victim’s life still hung in the balance.
Highway Showdown: Armed Kidnappers Resist Arrest, Are Subdued
The National Police’s rapid response unit had already set up a dragnet. On a highway near Caldes de Montbui, police vehicles successfully intercepted the kidnappers’ car. Faced with the police encirclement, the cornered kidnappers acted desperately, not only attempting to ram the police cars but also pulling out firearms to resist arrest.
At the critical moment, officers acted with professionalism and decisiveness to quickly subdue and arrest the suspects on the spot. When the victim was rescued, he was covered in bruises from beatings and in a precarious physical condition. The arrested suspects have now been charged with kidnapping and illegal possession of firearms.
