Back to Regular Hours as Summer Schedule Ends
Mercadona, one of Spain’s largest supermarket chains, has announced the end of its extended summer schedule. With the peak tourist season fading, all stores will revert from their summer 9:00 to 22:00 hours to the regular “winter hours” starting the first week of September 2026.
This adjustment is a routine seasonal change that Mercadona makes annually, aimed at aligning its service hours with the shopping habits of the majority of its customers.
New Nationwide Hours: 9:00-21:30, Monday to Saturday
Under the new schedule, the standardized opening hours for all Mercadona stores nationwide will be from 9:00 to 21:30, Monday to Saturday, without a midday break.
The most notable change in this adjustment is that all stores will strictly adhere to the policy of being closed on Sundays and public holidays. This means that the special arrangement of opening on Sunday mornings (until 15:00), which was implemented during the summer to cater to tourists, will be completely discontinued.
Significant Impact on Stores in Tourist Areas
The change will most significantly affect over 300 stores located in coastal and major tourist areas. These stores, which operated until 22:00 during the summer, will now close half an hour earlier at 21:30. Additionally, their special Sunday and holiday opening services will also cease.
Regular customers of these stores should take special note of the time changes to avoid a wasted trip.
Potential Changes to Online Delivery Services
The adjustment in opening hours may also affect the online order delivery service for some stores. Due to earlier closing times, online order processing and delivery schedules in some areas may be postponed to the next day. Specific delivery time slots will depend on the operational capacity and location of each store.
Mercadona officially advises that although the company has announced a unified framework for opening hours, there may be minor variations in the actual schedules of individual stores.
