An Ill-Fated Act of Kindness
The incident took place shortly before midnight last Saturday, August 29, 2026, at a bar named “22 y Punto” on calle dels Jurats in Valencia. Edgar, a 44-year-old Peruvian man, was having a drink with friends on the bar’s terrace.
According to witness testimony and security footage, a Dominican woman, reportedly with a history of alcohol problems, was refused service by the bar staff due to concerns about her condition. To de-escalate the situation, Edgar offered to pay for her drink to calm the tension.
The Attack: A Fatal Strike Fueled by Jealousy
Shortly after, Paula, a 35-year-old woman believed to be the Dominican woman’s ex-partner, arrived at the bar. After a brief conversation with her ex, Paula apparently misunderstood the situation, suspecting that Edgar was flirting with her former girlfriend.
Driven by jealousy, Paula suddenly got up, pulled out a large knife, approached the unsuspecting Edgar from behind, and stabbed him repeatedly at least three times. According to reports, the suspect, Paula, was formerly named Pablo and had recently undergone a gender transition. After the assault, Paula fled the scene with the weapon.
The Response: Emergency Care and a Tragic Outcome
Following the incident, the National Police, Local Police, and a SAMU emergency services team arrived swiftly. Paramedics administered first aid to Edgar at the scene to stabilize him before rushing him to the nearby Hospital General de Valencia for emergency treatment.
However, due to the severity of his injuries, Edgar was pronounced dead at approximately 1:30 AM on Sunday.
The Pursuit: Suspect Caught and Investigation Underway
National Police patrols launched a swift pursuit after the crime and quickly located the suspect’s residence. Officers arrested her in front of her home on calle Antella. Paula allegedly still had blood on her hands at the time of her arrest.
The case has now been taken over by the National Police’s Homicide Group. Forensic investigators are conducting a thorough search of the terrace, nearby trash cans, and the undersides of vehicles for the discarded weapon. Meanwhile, police have executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home, seizing several key pieces of evidence related to the case. The investigation is ongoing.
