An Act of Kindness Sparks a Tragedy
Early last Sunday morning, a violent murder took place at a bar on calle dels Jurats (Jurat Street) in the center of Valencia. The incident stemmed from what appeared to be an act of kindness.
According to reports, Edgar, a 44-year-old Peruvian man, was on the bar’s outdoor terrace with friends. At the same time, a Dominican woman was refused service by the bartender due to a history of alcohol abuse and causing trouble. Witnessing the dispute, Edgar offered to buy a beer for the woman, whom he did not know, to de-escalate the situation. The woman accepted and joined Edgar at his table for a chat.
A Fatal Attack Fueled by Jealousy
The calm evening was soon shattered by sudden violence. The Dominican woman’s ex-partner, Paula, a transgender woman, arrived at the bar shortly after. Upon seeing her ex-girlfriend drinking and talking with Edgar, she was reportedly overcome with jealousy.
Witnesses stated that Paula did not immediately show her anger. Instead, she ordered a beer, sat at a nearby table, and spoke briefly with her ex-girlfriend. However, moments later, she suddenly stood up, pulled out a large knife, and violently stabbed the unsuspecting Edgar from behind. Edgar sustained at least three stab wounds to his back and other areas, leaving him critically injured.
Emergency Response and Suspect’s Arrest
After the attack, Paula fled the scene with the weapon. Several National Police patrol cars and paramedics arrived after being alerted. Edgar was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. His body has been sent to the Valencia Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy.
The Spanish National Police launched an immediate investigation and, through witness interviews, quickly identified the suspect as Paula. Learning that she lived in a nearby building, officers went to her residence and arrested her. The case is currently under further investigation.
