Escape Ends in Tragedy
Early Monday morning, a fatal accident occurred in the city of Cartagena, in Spain’s Region of Murcia. A young man, while evading a police pursuit, chose to hide inside a dumpster on Calle Carlos III in the city center, leading to an irreversible tragedy.
Sources close to the investigation have confirmed that the man was wanted by the police for his alleged involvement in a violent robbery. In a desperate attempt to escape capture, he used the dumpster as a temporary hiding spot.
A Fatal Accident During Routine Collection
At the time of the incident, a municipal garbage truck was conducting its routine nighttime collection. The driver, completely unaware of the man’s presence, followed standard procedure by lifting the dumpster and emptying its contents into the truck’s rear compartment.
After the garbage compaction system was activated, the man was instantly killed by the powerful mechanical pressure. Although the driver noticed something was wrong and immediately stopped the machinery, it was too late—the tragedy had already occurred.
Emergency Response and On-Site Management
Following the incident, multiple law enforcement agencies, including the National Police (Policía Nacional) and Cartagena’s Local Police (Policía Local), quickly arrived and cordoned off the scene. Emergency medical services, judicial officials, and a forensic examiner also arrived to conduct their investigation and handle the situation.
As the body was trapped deep inside the truck, the fire department (Bomberos) was called to the scene to assist in cutting open the vehicle to extract the victim’s remains. The sanitation truck driver, who witnessed the horrific event, suffered an acute anxiety attack from the shock and received immediate psychological intervention and emergency care from paramedics on site.
