Summer’s Special Operating Schedule Officially Ends
The well-known Spanish supermarket chain Mercadona has announced that with the end of summer, its seasonal adjustment to opening hours concluded as of August 31. During the peak summer tourist season, to meet increased consumer demand, Mercadona extended the hours of its stores in some popular tourist areas and offered limited services on Sundays and holidays.
Over 300 Stores Nationwide Return to Regular Operations
The core of this adjustment is the return to the standard operating model. The vast majority of Mercadona’s stores will now have unified hours from Monday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 9:30 PM. This change primarily affects the more than 300 stores in tourist areas that were on the summer schedule, with their closing time moving half an hour earlier from 10:00 PM to 9:30 PM.
Sunday and Holiday Closures Reinstated
During the summer, some Mercadona stores in tourist areas were open on Sunday and holiday mornings (until 3:00 PM). With the return to the regular policy, these stores will once again be closed all day on Sundays and holidays. Customers should be aware that they will not be able to shop at these locations on these dates.
Online Delivery Services May Be Adjusted Accordingly
Changes in store opening hours will also affect online services. Mercadona’s online shopping and delivery times are closely tied to the operating hours of its physical stores. Consequently, the online order delivery schedule in some areas may be updated, and some same-day delivery services might be shifted to next-day delivery. Users of the Mercadona website or mobile app are advised to carefully check the latest delivery arrangements for their area before placing an order to avoid any inconvenience.
