My Secret List of Instagrammable Spots in Spain
Just got back from an amazing trip to Spain with 100GB of photos to sort through… I noticed many friends are still asking about the usual tourist spots, so today I’m sharing some of my secret hidden gems for photography. I guarantee they’ll give your social media feed a fresh new look
!
1. The Real Dragonstone from “Game of Thrones” - San Juan de Gaztelugatxe
This place shot to fame thanks to “Game of Thrones,” and fans will instantly recognize this must-visit Instagrammable spot in Spain
as the filming location for Dragonstone. Located in the Basque Country in northern Spain, a winding stone staircase connects the mainland to an islet, topped by a small chapel. Walking along it with the Atlantic wind blowing truly gives you a sense of epic, dramatic romance. Pro tip: wear bright colors for photos that really pop!

2. The Real-Life Smurf Village - Júzcar
Among the famous “White Villages” of Andalusia, Júzcar is a true standout. To promote “The Smurfs” movie, Sony Pictures painted the entire village blue. After the promotion ended, the villagers voted to keep the color permanently. Thus, it became the world’s one-and-only “Smurf Village.” Strolling through the village, you’ll find Smurf-themed murals and statues everywhere, unleashing your inner child!
3. The City in the Sky - The Hanging Houses of Cuenca
I was completely stunned the first time I saw photos of the Hanging Houses of Cuenca. These houses are built right on the edge of a sheer cliff, looking as if they could fall into the deep gorge at any moment, hence the name “Hanging Houses” (Casas Colgadas). This place is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a marvel of Spanish architecture, often topping any ranking of Spain’s Instagrammable spots. The best viewing point is from the San Pablo Bridge opposite, where you can capture a spectacular panoramic view of the houses and the entire canyon.
| Attraction | Autonomous Community | In a Nutshell |
| San Juan de Gaztelugatxe | Basque Country | A must-see for GoT fans, the real Dragonstone! |
| Júzcar | Andalusia | A one-of-a-kind blue fairytale village. |
| Hanging Houses of Cuenca | Castile-La Mancha | Houses built on a cliff, visually stunning. |
Of course, Spain has far too many amazing places, it’s impossible to list them all! For now, I’m just sharing these three personal favorites, but there are plenty of other Insta-worthy coastal spots in Spain to discover. Do you have any secret spots to add?
