Recently preparing to apply for a Spanish visa, I’ve noticed many friends asking when their visas will be issued. This is indeed an important question as it affects travel planning and flight bookings. Based on my experience and collected information, I’d like to share the processing times for different types of Spanish visas.
Tourist Visa Processing Times
Generally speaking, the standard processing time for Spanish tourist visas is 15 working days. However, actual situations may vary. During off-peak seasons, it might take only 10-12 working days to get approved, but Spanish visa approval times during summer peak tourist season or around Christmas holidays may require 20 working days or even longer for visa collection. When I applied last July, I waited 18 working days before receiving my visa.

I recommend everyone start preparing documents and submitting applications at least one month in advance for safety. Especially if your travel plans are urgent, you can choose expedited services. Although the fees are higher, visas can usually be issued within 5-7 working days.
Student Visa Processing Timeline
Student visas are relatively more complex as they require reviewing more documents. Based on my understanding, Spanish student visa processing times typically range between 20-30 working days. For short-term student visas for language schools, the timeline might be slightly faster, approximately 15-20 working days.
| Visa Type | Processing Time | Notes |
| Tourist Visa | 10-20 working days | Varies by season |
| Student Visa | 20-30 working days | Time affected by document complexity |
| Work Visa | 30-45 working days | Requires labor department approval |
| Family Reunion | 25-35 working days | Strict relationship verification |
Work Visas and Other Types
Work visas are the most complex as they involve approval from Spanish labor departments. They typically require at least one month, but in most cases actually need 30-45 working days. A friend of mine waited nearly two months for their work visa approval.
Family reunion visas are also time-consuming, generally requiring 25-35 working days, mainly due to strict verification of family relationship documents and financial guarantee materials.
Factors Affecting Processing Times
Besides visa type, several factors influence processing times. First is document completeness. If documents are incomplete or problematic, consulates will request additional materials, extending processing time. Second is seasonal application volume - summer and holiday periods see increased applications, correspondingly extending processing times.
Different consular districts also have varying processing speeds. From my observation, Beijing consular district is relatively faster, while Shanghai and Guangzhou districts might be slower during peak seasons. I recommend checking the latest processing time information for specific consular districts on official websites and planning accordingly.
