I recommend starting document preparation 1-2 months in advance, as appointment slots are usually quite tight. The visa center operates Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 3 PM, closed on weekends and Japanese national holidays.

The online appointment system is relatively straightforward. After selecting a suitable time slot, you’ll receive a confirmation email. I recommend printing the appointment confirmation to bring along. Upon arrival at the visa center, you’ll first go through security, then confirm your appointment information at the front desk. Staff will check documents one by one, and if there are issues with your Tokyo Spanish visa application, they’ll point them out immediately.
The entire submission process takes approximately 30-45 minutes, including fingerprinting and photo taking. The staff attitude is reasonably friendly, and you can ask questions in English or Japanese. After submission, you’ll receive a tracking number to check progress on the official website.
Processing Time and Visa Collection
Generally, Spanish visa processing takes 10-15 working days. My visa was approved in 12 working days, which is quite efficient. I heard processing times were extended during the pandemic, but they’ve basically returned to normal now.
For visa collection, you can choose to pick up in person or use postal service. If you choose postal service, there’s an additional fee of 1,000 yen. I recommend choosing based on your schedule, personally I find postal service more convenient.
