Recently while browsing several supermarkets in Madrid, I discovered quite a few small red wines with excellent value for money on sale. As someone who enjoys the occasional glass, I couldn’t help but share these finds with everyone.
At Mercadona, I spotted several small bottle red wines from the La Rioja region - 375ml bottles originally priced at €4.5, now on special offer for just €2.99. This price point is really perfect for when you’re home alone and want to open a bottle, without the waste of a 750ml bottle you can’t finish. In terms of taste, they lean towards fruity notes with light tannins, making them ideal for pairing with tapas or dinner.

Price Comparison Across Supermarkets
Below is a summary of small red wine special offers from major supermarkets:
| Supermarket | Brand | Original Price | Special Price | Discount |
| Mercadona | Viña Herminia | €4.5 | €2.99 | 33% off |
| Carrefour | Campo Viejo | €5.2 | €3.75 | 28% off |
| El Corte Inglés | Marqués de Cáceres | €6.8 | €4.99 | 27% off |
Carrefour also has some excellent choices - Campo Viejo is a brand everyone should be familiar with, normally €5.2 but now €3.75. This wine has a fuller body, suitable for pairing with red meat or cheese. I personally think the value is quite good, especially for such a well-known brand to have this kind of discount - it’s genuinely rare.
Purchase Recommendations
While El Corte Inglés is slightly pricier, the Spanish wine special offers Marqués de Cáceres is indeed better quality. If you’re looking for wine import customs gifts or for important occasions, I’d recommend this one. For everyday drinking, the first two options are completely adequate.
I should also mention that these special offers typically don’t last long, so I’d suggest interested friends check them out soon. I’ve already stocked up on a few bottles of the Mercadona option for this month’s gatherings. If anyone has other good small red wine recommendations, please feel free to share in the comments!
