Guide to the Spanish Language Exam Registration Process
For those living in Spain or planning to study Spanish, taking an official Spanish language exam not only tests your language skills but can also enhance your academic and career opportunities. Here I share my registration experience and some details that may help you.
Step 1: Confirm the Exam Type and Date
Before registering, you should first determine which exam type you want to take: the traditional DELE paper-based exam or the fully online SIELE. They differ in schedule flexibility, format, and how quickly results are issued. See the table below:

Usually, you need to prepare your passport or NIE, contact information, and payment method. Some exam centers may also require uploading a digital photo. Tip: If your passport is nearing its expiration date, renew it in advance; otherwise, it may affect the validity of your registration.
- Online registration: Visit the official website, select the exam location and date, fill in personal details, upload your photo, and pay the fee. Once payment is successful, you will receive a confirmation email.
- Offline registration: Some city exam centers offer Spanish training process for on-site registration; simply bring your required materials and registration fee.
Personally, I prefer online registration because you can instantly check available seats and compare different cities.
Step 4: Confirm and Print the Admission Ticket
After receiving the confirmation email, make sure to log into the official website within the specified time period to download and print your admission ticket. Do not wait until the exam day to find a print shop, as unexpected issues may occur.
Step 5: Exam Day Notes
Arrive at the test site early, bringing your admission ticket and valid ID. For DELE exams, ID and photo consistency is checked; for SIELE, there is an online invigilation process, so you should test your equipment and internet connection beforehand.
Final small tip: To make the entire process smoother, in addition to understanding the registration information in advance, plan your exam date several months ahead and leave time for revision close to the exam date, which will boost your confidence.
