Just returned from Madrid and wanted to share my experience with the Barajas Airport duty-free shops. Many friends ask what brands are available at the airport before departure, so I made sure to spend some time exploring thoroughly this time.
Madrid Airport’s main hub is Terminal T4, where the duty-free shopping area is located in the departure lounge after security. Luxury Brand Zone is mainly on the S level, featuring major brands like Hermès, Gucci, and Burberry. However, I should mention that Hermès has limited inventory, mostly small leather goods and scarves. Those hoping to buy bags at might be disappointed. Gucci, on the other hand, has a quite comprehensive selection including sunglasses, bags, and belts.

The cosmetics area is probably the most popular section. Brands like Dior, Chanel, Estée Lauder, and Lancôme all have counters, with prices slightly cheaper than downtown duty-free shops. I compared prices and some gift sets definitely offer good value. Jo Malone perfumes are also worth checking out for [url=https://www.52spain.com/d/71816-transport-guide-from-madrid-airport-to-plaza-de-espana from Madrid Airport to Plaza de España, as they often have airport-exclusive editions. MAC and Bobbi Brown counters are smaller but carry most popular shades.
| Brand Category | Representative Brands | Price Advantage |
| Luxury Goods | Hermès, Gucci, Burberry | Moderate |
| Cosmetics | Dior, Chanel, Estée Lauder | Good |
| Spanish Specialties | Loewe, Tous | Average |
| Tobacco & Alcohol | Johnnie Walker, Chivas | Significant |
Spanish brand Loewe has a substantial store at the airport with a wide selection of bags and leather goods. Tous jewelry is also worth browsing when considering , especially their teddy bear collection which makes great gifts. I originally planned to buy a Loewe small bag but decided against it after discovering that prices at downtown El Corte Inglés are similar after tax refund.
Practical Shopping Tips
The tobacco and alcohol section offers an extensive variety including whisky, wine, and cigars. Prices are indeed much lower than outside, especially Spanish wines from local wineries, perfect for gifts. Remember to check regulations for connecting flights or your destination country regarding liquid products.
Finally, I recommend allowing at least 1.5 to 2 hours for shopping, especially during peak season when it gets crowded. The tax refund counter is located before security, so make sure to complete your tax refund process first. Most stores accept Visa and Mastercard, and some accept Alipay and WeChat Pay, but not all of them, so it’s safer to bring a credit card.
