Madrid Airport Shopping Guide
Last month on my way back from Barcelona, I deliberately left 3 hours for duty-free shopping during my layover at Madrid Barajas Airport. Honestly, this airport has far more brands than I expected. Today I’ll share with you which stores are worth visiting.
Terminals 1 and 2
T1 and T2 are relatively smaller, mainly serving European domestic flights. Here you can find Spanish fast-fashion brands like Zara and Mango, with prices similar to downtown but more convenient. For cosmetics, there’s a small Sephora store carrying common brands like L’Oréal, Estée Lauder, and Lancôme. I bought two bottles of Loewe perfume at the El Corte Inglés in T1, much cheaper than back home.

Luxury Shopping Area in Terminal 4
T4 is the main terminal where most international flights operate. Walk past security and you’ll see a whole row of luxury boutiques including Hermès, Gucci, Burberry, and Cartier. Loewe, as a Spanish luxury brand at Madrid Airport, has a particularly large store here with a comprehensive selection of handbags. Last time I saw someone buying foundation at the Dior counter, and the staff spoke Chinese, making communication very easy.
Brand Distribution Comparison
Below is an overview of the main brand distribution across terminals, so you can plan ahead based on your flight:
| Terminal | Luxury Brands | Fast Fashion | Cosmetics | Features |
| T1 | Loewe, Tous | Zara, Mango | Sephora | El Corte Inglés department store |
| T4 | Hermès, Gucci, Dior | Massimo Dutti | MAC, Estée Lauder | Most comprehensive brands, largest duty-free area |
| T4S | Prada, Burberry | Pull&Bear | Lancôme, Clarins | Satellite terminal, requires shuttle train |
Spanish Local Products Worth Buying
Besides international brands, you can also explore the route from Madrid Airport to Plaza de España. The airport offers many Spanish specialty products. Natura Bissé skincare products are about 40% cheaper in Spain than in Asia—I stock up every time I return home. The food section has jamón, olive oil, and Turrón candy perfect for gifts. Camper has a store in T4 with even more styles than their downtown boutiques.
Helpful Tips: If you’re a non-EU resident and need to return your rental car at Madrid Airport, remember to get tax refund forms when shopping downtown—the airport tax refund counter is located before security. Also, T4S is a satellite terminal requiring a shuttle train, so allow at least 20 minutes. Weekends and holidays get crowded, and popular brand counters often have queues, so plan your time wisely.
