Just got back from Madrid Barajas Airport and noticed some forum members asking about airport taxi services, so I’d like to share my recent experience.
Official Taxi Fixed Rates
There’s a fixed fare for taxis from Madrid airport to anywhere within the M-30 ring road. During daytime hours, it’s €30, which includes all fees with no extra charges for luggage or airport surcharges. Nighttime rates are slightly higher, around €35-40. Last Thursday, I arrived at Terminal T4 around 3 PM and took a taxi to near Puerta del Sol. The driver quoted €30 directly without using the meter.

Price comparison by time and destination:
| Time Slot | Within City | Outside City | Notes |
| Daytime 7:00-21:00 | €30 fixed fare | Metered | All surcharges included |
| Night 21:00-7:00 | Around €35-40 | Metered | Night surcharge applies |
| Weekends/Holidays | €30 fixed fare | Metered | Daytime hours |
Ride-Hailing App Options
Besides traditional taxis, you can also use Cabify and Uber at Madrid airport. I checked Madrid prices on Cabify this time, which showed €25-28, seemingly cheaper than taxis. However, note that the pickup point is not at the taxi stand—you need to walk to the designated ride-hailing pickup area. If you have lots of Madrid jerseys or luggage, this can be quite inconvenient.
The ride-hailing pickup point at T4 is at Parking P1, about a 10-minute walk from the arrivals hall, including crossing a skybridge. If arriving late at night, I’d recommend taking a regular taxi for safety and convenience.
Important Points to Note
Taxi stands are clearly marked outside the arrivals level of each terminal. Lines usually move quickly, though you won’t have to wait long actually, during peak hours there can be some waiting time. Always go to the official taxi stand and ignore anyone who approaches you offering rides—those are usually unlicensed cabs that charge much more.
Regarding payment methods, most taxis now accept cards, but it’s best to confirm before getting in. A few older drivers might only take cash. The driver I had had a POS machine in the car, so card payment was no problem.
If your destination is outside the M-30, such as suburbs or other cities, the fare will be metered. Before getting in, it’s wise to estimate the distance and time using Google Maps. From the airport to city center takes about 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic.
Taxi service at Madrid airport is quite regulated with transparent pricing, so no need to worry about being overcharged. If you’re visiting Madrid metro ticket prices for the first time or traveling with elderly or children, taking a taxi directly is the most convenient option.
