I recently spent a few days in Madrid and, with a gap between hotel checkout and my flight departure, I researched luggage storage options around the city. The storage services here are quite comprehensive, so I’m sharing this for anyone who might need it.
Train Station Storage
Atocha Station is where I stored my luggage most often. The storage facility is located on the lower ground floor, operating from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Prices vary by luggage size: small items cost around 4-5 euros per day, while large suitcases run about 6-7 euros. I stored a 28-inch suitcase once and paid 6.5 euros, which seemed reasonable. You’ll need to present your receipt when collecting your luggage, so keep that ticket safe.
Chamartín Station offers similar services, though I haven’t used it personally. I’ve heard the prices are comparable to Atocha, with the facility located in a side area of the main hall. If you’re arriving from the north, this station might be more convenient, especially if you’re planning to visit Madrid city center sushi restaurants.

Airport Storage Options
Madrid Barajas Airport has official luggage storage services at terminals T1, T2, and T4. I used the T4 facility once, located in the arrivals hall with clear signage. Prices are higher than in the city center: small items cost about 6 euros per day, large suitcases 8-10 euros per day. For short stays of just a few hours, they offer hourly rates, with the first 4 hours costing roughly half the full-day price.
T4 also has self-service lockers operated by card, convenient when you’re in a hurry. However, locker availability is limited and may be hit-or-miss during peak season.
City Center Private Storage Points
The city center now has numerous privately-operated luggage storage points, many partnering with local shops. There are several near Puerta del Sol. I tried one called LuggageHero, which you book via mobile app and verify in-store. Prices are slightly cheaper than train stations, around 4 euros per item for a full day.
Here’s a comparison of common storage locations, including options near Madrid city center massage venues:
| Storage Location | Price Range (EUR) | Operating Hours | Convenience |
| Atocha Station | 4-7 | 07:00-23:00 | Very convenient |
| Barajas Airport | 6-10 | 24 hours | Convenient |
| City center shops | 3-5 | Usually 10:00-20:00 | Fairly convenient |
| Gran Via | 4-6 | 09:00-21:00 | Convenient |
Usage Tips
Based on my experience, if you’re arriving by train, storing at the station is most straightforward. If you’re staying in the city center and want to continue sightseeing after checkout, finding a nearby private storage point offers more flexibility. As for the airport, I wouldn’t recommend it unless absolutely necessary, mainly because prices are higher and the trip to and from the airport takes time, especially if you need to use Madrid public restrooms.
One more reminder: some storage points have size restrictions, so oversized luggage may require advance confirmation. Also note that valuables and fragile items are typically not covered by their liability policies.
Overall, luggage storage in Madrid is quite convenient, with services available in most major areas. Choose the location that best fits your itinerary and enjoy your time in Madrid.
