After living in Madrid for a while, I’ve found that shopping in Madrid for clothes doesn’t have to break the bank. While city center stores like Zara and Mango aren’t particularly cheap, knowing where to look can lead you to plenty of quality finds at great prices. Today I’m sharing some of my go-to budget clothing stores that I hope you’ll find helpful.
Primark - Student Favorite
Primark is absolutely one of Madrid’s most popular budget clothing chains. The Gran Vía location is huge, stocked with everything from basic tees to outerwear at incredibly affordable prices. A cotton T-shirt might cost only 5-8 euros, and jeans run around 15-20 euros. While the quality can’t compete with budget-friendly Michelin restaurants in Madrid luxury brands, they’re perfectly fine for everyday wear. Weekends get extremely crowded, so visiting on weekdays is much more comfortable.

C&A and Lefties
C&A offers slightly better quality than Primark at reasonable prices. Their basics and business casual wear provide excellent value, especially during sale seasons, when you can find amazing deals. Lefties, Zara’s budget brand, has great design at prices much lower than Zara, with a location near Callao metro station.
Flea Markets and Thrift Stores
If you don’t mind secondhand clothing, El Rastro flea market opens every Sunday with numerous vintage clothing stalls where you can find unique pieces with some luck. Additionally, the Malasaña neighborhood has several thrift stores, like Flamingos Vintage Shop, featuring distinctive vintage items. Though it takes time to browse through everything, you can truly discover styles unavailable elsewhere.
Here’s a summary of basic information about Madrid’s cost of living and several stores for reference:
| Store | Location | Price Range | Features |
| Primark | Gran Vía 32 | 5-30 euros | Wide selection, super cheap |
| C&A | Multiple locations | 10-50 euros | Consistent quality |
| Lefties | Near Callao | 8-35 euros | Great design |
| El Rastro | La Latina area | 5-20 euros | Sundays only, mainly secondhand |
Shopping Tips
Finally, some money-saving tips: January and July are sale seasons when major stores offer the biggest discounts; getting an El Corte Inglés membership card provides additional discounts; following brands’ social media accounts often reveals promotional offers. Shopping for clothes in Madrid doesn’t require visiting the most expensive stores - with some effort, budget shops can help you develop your own style just as well.
