When I first arrived in Madrid, I was also confused about the palace’s location. Actually, it’s not hard to find at all—let me share my experience with you today.
The Royal Palace of Madrid is located on the western side of Madrid’s city center, specifically on Calle de Bailén, near the Manzanares River. From the Opera metro station, it’s about a 5-minute walk to reach it. If you’re staying near Puerta del Sol, you can walk there in about 15 minutes, and along the way you’ll get to see the Royal Palace of Madrid city center streets. The Madrid Royal Palace is easily accessible from various points in the city.

Regarding transportation options, besides the metro, you can also choose from several bus lines. Buses 3, 25, 39, and 148 all pass near the Royal Palace of Madrid. If you’ve purchased a Madrid tourist pass, all these transportation options are free. Taking a taxi from the city center costs about 10 euros, though personally I find the metro most convenient.
Visiting hours and tickets also require some attention. The palace is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00-18:00, and Sundays and holidays from 10:00-16:00. Ticket price is 12 euros, with discounts available for students and seniors over 65. I recommend booking in advance on the official website to avoid queuing, especially during peak tourist season.
Nearby Places Worth Visiting
After visiting the palace, there are several nearby places worth exploring. Here’s a simple comparison I’ve put together:
| Attraction | Distance from Palace | Recommendation |
| Almudena Cathedral | 2-minute walk | ★★★★★ |
| Plaza de Oriente | 3-minute walk | ★★★★ |
| Sabatini Gardens | 5-minute walk | ★★★★ |
| Temple of Debod | 10-minute walk | ★★★★★ |
One final reminder: photography is prohibited inside the palace, but you can freely take photos of the exterior and gardens. Don’t be like me on my first visit, only finding out when staff reminded me. Also, security checks are quite strict, and large bags need to be stored, so I suggest traveling light. If you have time, having a coffee at the nearby Café de Oriente while enjoying the palace view is also a wonderful experience.
