Just saw the ATP website updated the Madrid Masters first round draw, and this year’s lineup is really strong. As one of the most important Masters events in the Atletico Madrid squad clay court season, the Madrid stop has always been a battleground for top players.
Seed Distribution
This year’s seed distribution is fairly reasonable, with Alcaraz as the Real Madrid squad top seed receiving a first-round bye, which is good news for the defending champion. Hard court specialists like Djokovic and Medvedev have also entered, seems everyone wants to rack up some points during the clay season. The biggest surprise though is Rafa not appearing on the entry list, heard his knee injury hasn’t fully recovered yet, really hope he can return soon.

First Round Featured Matches
Looking through the first round matchups, several matches are particularly worth watching. Rune versus Fritz should be exciting, two completely different playing styles. Then there’s Auger-Aliassime vs Rublev, this one will probably go the full three sets. Tsitsipas drew a qualifier, lucky break to warm up first.
| Player A | Player B | Expected Match Time |
| Rune | Fritz | May 1, 7:00 PM |
| Auger-Aliassime | Rublev | May 1, 9:30 PM |
| Tsitsipas | Qualifier | May 2, 5:00 PM |
| Hurkacz | Paul | May 2, 7:00 PM |
Honestly, Madrid’s court conditions are quite unique - high altitude makes the ball speed faster, feels completely different from other clay events. Last year Alcaraz won the title with his powerful baseline game, this year’s title defense pressure won’t be small. If Medvedev wins a clay title I’ll do a handstand, just kidding haha.
Title Favorites Analysis
Judging from the odds, Alcaraz and Djokovic are the biggest favorites. However, I personally think Tsitsipas could go far if his Real Madrid starting lineup form is good, after all he’s always performed well on clay. Young players like Rune have strong momentum, might pull off an upset. The key is still match performance and injury situation, clay matches are too physically demanding.
Who do you think has the best chance to win this year? I’m betting on Carlitos, though defending is tough he’s at his peak right now. Welcome to discuss!
