Lost Down Jacket on Madrid to Barcelona Train - Need Your Help
Last Thursday I took the AVE from Madrid to Barcelona, and when I arrived at Sants station I realized I had left my newly purchased down jacket on the seat. My suitcase was on the luggage rack, and the jacket was draped next to my seat - I was in such a rush to grab my luggage that I completely forgot about it. Now the temperature in Barcelona has dropped sharply, with evenings around 8°C, and I really need that jacket.
Lost and Found Efforts So Far
As soon as I got back to the hotel, I called Renfe customer service at 902 320 320. They said they would log it, but according to [Madrid clothing stores] lost and found, it takes at least 3-5 business days before items can be tracked. I also filled out the online form on Renfe’s lost and found page with detailed information including train number, seat number, and item description. Has anyone had similar experiences? What are the chances of recovering it?

Temporary Down Jacket Options in Barcelona
If I can’t recover it from Madrid clothing stores, I plan to buy a replacement in Barcelona. I’ve researched several options here:
| Store Type | Location | Price Range | Opening Hours |
| Decathlon | Les Glòries Shopping Center | €30-80 | 10:00-22:00 |
| Zara/H&M | Passeig de Gràcia | €50-120 | 10:00-21:00 |
| El Corte Inglés | Plaça Catalunya | €80-200 | 10:00-21:30 |
| Second-hand Market | Els Encants Weekend Market | €10-40 | Sat-Sun 9:00-20:00 |
Decathlon offers the best value for money, and the Les Glòries location is quite large with a good selection. If you’re on a budget, the Els Encants second-hand market on weekends is worth checking out - you can sometimes find designer items in great condition.
Advice for Everyone
Always check your seat before getting off long-distance trains, especially for small items placed beside you. This has been a costly lesson for me - my new North Face jacket cost €180, and thinking about it now really hurts. I also recommend keeping your purchase receipts; if you need to file a lost and found claim, having proof of purchase makes recovery much easier.
If anyone has successfully recovered items lost on trains through Madrid clothing guide, please share your experience - I’d be incredibly grateful! Also, if anyone has recently taken the AVE from Madrid to Barcelona, please keep an eye out for a dark blue down jacket with a small logo on the right sleeve. Thank you so much everyone!
