I recently moved to the southern new district of Madrid, and every day I pass by that construction area, seeing the words “Athletics Park” on the barriers. I’ve been curious for a long time about when this park will actually be completed. Last weekend, I made a special trip to walk around the area and asked some neighbors and construction workers. Here’s some information I’ve compiled for your reference.
Based on my observations and what I’ve learned, the main structure of the park is approximately 70% complete. Hard-surface areas like the soccer field and basketball courts are basically laid out, though line markings and nets haven’t been installed yet. Equipment for the children’s play area has arrived on-site, and workers are currently installing and securing it. The most exciting part is the small running track, which looks to be made of quality material—appears to be a professional rubber track.

Surrounding Amenities Status
The parking lot on the north side of the park already has painted spaces, with room for about 50 cars by my estimate. At the east entrance, the framework for a small coffee kiosk is up—not sure if they’ll actually open a coffee shop later. The restroom building is also finished, just waiting for water and electricity connections. Overall, the amenities seem quite complete, at least meeting basic needs.
Oh, and a neighbor told me that the municipal department plans to add two bus stops around the park, making it convenient for everyone to come here for exercise. However, which specific bus routes will pass through here at Madrid Theme Park hasn’t been announced yet. If bus service to Madrid Park really gets established, it would be incredibly convenient for those of us who don’t drive.
Expected Opening Date
I asked someone on-site who looked like a project supervisor, and he said if the weather cooperates, it should be by year-end it’s expected to open to the public around February next year. They mainly need to wait for landscaping planting and some safety inspections to be completed. Sounds like we need to wait a few more months, but at least having a definite timeline is good news.
| Facility Type | Completion | Expected Availability |
| Soccer Field | 85% | Early February |
| Basketball Courts | 90% | Late January |
| Children’s Area | 60% | Mid-February |
| Running Track | 95% | Late January |
| Rest Areas | 70% | Early February |
Honestly, this park is really important for residents in our area. Previously, if we wanted to exercise, we had to go far away. Now having such a well-equipped park right at our doorstep means we’ll have another great place to spend weekends. I hope the construction progresses smoothly and opens soon. Are there any friends who are also following this park’s progress? We can share the latest updates together.
