Recently flew from Doha to Madrid and wanted to share my practical experience on this route. As an important connection between the Middle East and Europe, this route is primarily operated by Qatar Airways, and the overall experience was quite good.
Flight Options & Fares
Direct flights from Doha to Madrid operate daily, with a flight time of approximately 7 hours. Ticket prices fluctuate significantly by season. I compared prices across several months:
| Month | Economy Average | Business Average |
| Mar-May | €450-650 | €1800-2400 |
| Jun-Aug | €600-850 | €2200-2800 |
| Sep-Nov | €400-600 | €1600-2200 |
| Dec-Feb | €500-700 | €1900-2500 |
I recommend booking 2-3 months in advance to secure better rates. I booked economy during low season and paid €520 total including taxes.
Doha Hamad International Airport Transit Experience
If you’re connecting through Doha to Madrid from Asia or other regions, the transit experience at Hamad Airport is worth noting. The airport is highly modern, with clear signage and free WiFi in the transit area with good speed.

For layovers exceeding 5 hours, consider joining the airport’s complimentary Doha city tour. I participated during an 8-hour layover and got to see Doha’s landmarks—great way to pass time. The airport also has numerous restaurants and shops. Duty-free prices are cheaper than European airports, especially for perfumes and cosmetics.
Flight Service & Onboard Experience
Qatar Airways consistently maintains an excellent reputation for service. Economy class seats offer reasonable space, and the entertainment system includes an English interface with a diverse selection of movies and TV shows. Two full meals are provided; taste is adequate, and you can pre-select special meals on their website. Cabin crew are friendly with Spanish-speaking attendants available, making communication smooth.
The only minor drawback is that onboard WiFi requires payment, though for a 7-hour flight, sleeping and watching a few movies makes time pass quickly. Remember to bring a neck pillow and eye mask for added comfort.
Arriving at Madrid Barajas Airport
Flights typically land at Terminal 1, where immigration processing is reasonably efficient—non-EU passport queues take about 30-45 minutes. After baggage claim, you can choose metro, airport bus, or taxi to reach the city center. Metro Line 8 is the most economical option, costing around €6 including airport supplement, reaching downtown in 40 minutes.
If you have lots of luggage or arrive late at night, I recommend taking a taxi or booking airport transfer service—though more expensive, it’s more convenient and safe. Car rental counters are also available at the airport if you plan to explore Spain by car; picking up directly at the airport is a great option.
The Doha to Madrid route, whether direct or with connections, is well-established with reliable service quality. Hope this information helps friends planning to visit Spain. If you have other questions or want to share your own experiences, feel free to leave comments below!
