I’ve been thinking about how to design an attractive summer tourism promotion campaign for Madrid and would like to share my planning ideas with you. I welcome your feedback and suggestions.
Campaign Positioning and Target Audience
This Madrid brand presentation campaign primarily targets European tourists aged 25-45, particularly middle-class families from France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. They typically enjoy cultural experiences, culinary exploration, and light outdoor activities. The campaign period should run from mid-June to the end of August, avoiding the May tourism peak while covering the entire summer vacation. The core selling points should highlight Madrid’s museums, flamenco performances, and tapas food culture, as these elements consistently perform well on social media.

Marketing Channels and Budget Allocation
Based on my experience, budget allocation should be considered as follows:
| Channel Type | Budget Share | Expected Results |
| Social Media Advertising | 40% | Precise targeting of audience |
| Travel Blogger Partnerships | 25% | Enhanced credibility |
| Offline Exhibitions | 20% | Brand image building |
| Traditional Media | 15% | Reaching older demographics |
For social media, Instagram and TikTok are priorities. I recommend creating 15-30 second short videos showcasing everyday scenes at the Prado Museum, Retiro Park, and Plaza Mayor. Avoid overly polished promotional videos—authentic street scenes and local daily life are actually more appealing.
Partnership and Promotional Offers
I suggest partnering with three-star to four-star hotels in Madrid to offer “stay three nights, get one free” packages. Simultaneously, contact 20-30 restaurants in the city center to provide 15% discounts for campaign participants. For museums, negotiate group ticket rates or introduce a “cultural pass” covering the Prado, Reina Sofía, and Thyssen museums.
Regarding transportation, it would be ideal if the Madrid event logo could collaborate with the metro company to offer discounted three-day passes. Initially, I considered negotiating charter flight deals with airlines, but the budget was simply too high, so I had to abandon that idea. Realistically, the focus should remain on optimizing ground services.
Interactive Elements Design
To increase engagement, launch social media challenges such as “Discover Hidden Cuisine in Madrid” or “Best Sunset Photography Spots.” Participants who upload photos using designated hashtags will have the chance to win hotel vouchers for their next trip. This type of user-generated content often spreads more effectively than official promotional videos.
Additionally, I recommend organizing weekend markets in Retiro Park or Plaza Mayor, inviting local artisans and food vendors to let tourists experience authentic Madrid lifestyle. Markets not only attract tourists but also engage local residents, creating positive word-of-mouth.
These are my preliminary ideas. The core concept of the entire campaign is “authentic experience over polished packaging.” If you have experience with similar projects in other cities or think certain aspects need adjustment, please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
