I’ve been planning a trip to Málaga recently and spent quite a bit of time researching the local climate and seasonal characteristics. I’d like to share my findings with you. If you’re also considering when to visit Málaga, I hope this post will be helpful.
Spring: My Top Recommendation
Spring in Málaga is truly pleasant, with temperatures ranging between 15-25°C, neither too cold nor too hot. Tourist numbers are relatively lower during this period, and hotel prices are cheaper than in summer. The Holy Week celebrations in April are spectacular, with street processions and religious ceremonies worth witnessing. However, note that accommodation gets tight during Holy Week, so advance booking is necessary.

Spring Climate Data Reference
| Month | Average Temperature | Rainy Days |
| March | 15-20°C | 5-7 days |
| April | 16-22°C | 4-6 days |
| May | 19-25°C | 3-5 days |
Summer: Paradise for Beach Lovers
Summer is peak season in Málaga, with temperatures frequently exceeding 30°C, sometimes even reaching above 35°C. If you enjoy sunbathing, swimming, and water sports, this is the ideal time. However, be prepared: beaches will be very crowded, and prices are at their highest year-round. I recommend going out before 9 AM or after 6 PM to avoid the hottest hours. In August, many locals go on vacation, so some small shops may be closed during Málaga time.
Autumn: Best Value for Money
Málaga in September and October remains warm, with sea temperatures still suitable for swimming, but tourist numbers noticeably decrease. The weather is stable with less rainfall, making it a great time to explore the city and surrounding towns. It starts getting a bit cooler in November due to the Málaga timezone, but daytime is still comfortable—you’ll just need a jacket in the evening. Autumn fruits and seafood are particularly fresh, perfect for enjoying local cuisine.
Autumn Events Recommendation
| Month | Main Events | Characteristics |
| September | Málaga Fair | Food, music, entertainment |
| October | Film Festival | Rich cultural activities |
| November | Harvest Season | Taste new wine and cuisine |
Winter: Off-Season but Charming
Winter in Málaga is much milder than the rest of Europe, with temperatures generally between 10-18°C, with occasional rain. This season sees the fewest tourists, most attractions have no queues, and hotel prices are very affordable. If you don’t mind the sometimes gloomy weather and want to quietly experience local life, winter is a good choice. The city is beautifully decorated during Christmas and New Year with a strong festive atmosphere, and you can enjoy the Málaga sunrise at different times throughout the season.
Spring and autumn are the best times to visit Málaga—comfortable weather, fewer crowds, and reasonable prices. Summer is perfect for beach vacations but requires enduring heat and crowds, while winter is an excellent choice for budget-conscious travelers. Which season to choose ultimately depends on your preferences and vacation schedule. Feel free to share any other suggestions or experiences in the comments!
