Last month I completed a road trip from Alicante to Granada and wanted to share my experience with everyone. This route is approximately 450 kilometers and takes 4 to 5 hours by car, with beautiful scenery along the way, especially after entering the Andalusia region.
Route Selection
I chose the route via A-7 to A-92, which is the most common option. I departed from Alicante at 8 AM, stopped for lunch near Guadix around noon, and arrived in Granada around 2 PM. I recommend avoiding Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings, as traffic is heavier during these times.

Places Worth Stopping Along the Way
The cave dwellings in Guadix are quite unique and worth a stop to see, as detailed in this comparison of life experiences in Alicante and Granada. Additionally, Baza has several good restaurants where you can have lunch if time permits. I ate at a place called Restaurante Los Rosales, where the roast lamb and stew were authentic and reasonably priced.
Actual Expenses
Here’s a breakdown of the main costs for this [Alicante to Granada transportation] trip:
| Item | Cost |
| Fuel | Approximately 55 euros |
| Lunch | 25 euros |
| Tolls | None |
| Parking | 15 euros/day |
About Accommodation
Granada offers many accommodation options. If you’re considering the Granada to Alicante distance and transportation methods and want to stay in the Albaicín area to experience the old town atmosphere, make sure to confirm in advance whether the hotel provides parking, as the streets there are very narrow and parking is a major challenge. I ended up staying near the city center, about a 20-minute walk to the Alhambra.
Quick tip: Alhambra tickets must be booked online in advance, as they’re virtually impossible to get on-site. Also, if you’re planning to stay in Granada for several days, consider leaving your car at the hotel and exploring the city on foot or by public transport, which is more convenient and economical.
Overall, this route is quite relaxing, with good road conditions and well-equipped service areas along the way. Feel free to ask me any questions - I hope this helps those planning this route.
