Rent is definitely the biggest expense. A one-bedroom apartment in the city center costs approximately 600-800 euros per month. If you choose areas like Ruzafa or Benimaclet that are slightly further out, prices drop to 450-600 euros. Sharing is much cheaper, with a room typically costing 250-400 euros. Utilities are extra; with air conditioning in summer, add about 50-80 euros per month.
Daily Food Expenses
Prices here in Valencia for battery replacement are much more affordable than Madrid and Barcelona. For grocery shopping, 40-60 euros per week will get you good meals. Mercadona and Consum are my go-to supermarkets, with reasonable prices and good quality. For dining out, Menu del día typically costs 10-15 euros, including starter, main course, dessert, and drink. Weekend paella at beachside restaurants runs about 20-30 euros per person.

Transportation
Public transport monthly pass costs about 43 euros, allowing unlimited metro and bus rides. Honestly, Valencia isn’t that big, and you can bike to many places. If you live in the city center based on Valencia property prices, walking is often sufficient. Taxi starting fare is around 5 euros, and from city center to airport about 20 euros.
Other Expenses
Gym membership costs 20-40 euros per month, movie tickets 8-10 euros, haircuts 10-15 euros for men and 25-40 euros for women. My phone plan is 10 euros monthly with 10GB data, which is plenty. If you’re not an EU resident, health insurance is essential, with basic plans around 50 euros per month.
Summary: If you’re living alone with a comfortable but not extravagant lifestyle, a monthly budget of 1200-1500 euros is reasonable. With roommates, you can manage on 900-1100 euros. Compared to other major Spanish cities, Valencia offers excellent value for money—great climate, beaches nearby, moderate prices.
