Valencia Carrefour Supermarket Food Shopping Guide
I’ve been living in Valencia for half a year now, and as someone who loves cooking, I visit Carrefour almost every week to stock up on ingredients. Today I want to share my shopping insights at this supermarket, especially those incredibly budget-friendly food recommendations.
Treasures in the Fresh Food Section
Carrefour’s fresh food section really impressed me. The seafood counter gets restocked every morning, with fresh shrimp, squid, and various fish available. I usually go on Wednesdays because that’s when they have special deals. I especially recommend their mussels - 1.5kg for only €3.99, quality that’s just as good as specialized seafood markets. The Iberian ham slices in the meat section are also worth trying. Although pricier than regular ham, the flavor is absolutely outstanding.

Local Specialties Must-Buy List
How can you come to Valencia without trying authentic paella ingredients? Carrefour has a dedicated Valencia specialties section. Bomba rice is the best choice for making paella, 500g package costs about €2.5. Although saffron isn’t cheap, the 0.5g small package is only €4.99, at least 30% cheaper than tourist shops. Additionally, their store-brand olive oil is excellent quality - 1L extra virgin olive oil for just €5.99, perfectly adequate for daily cooking.

Deli and Bakery Section
The deli counter is absolutely my favorite. After 5pm every day, many ready-to-eat items go on sale - roasted chicken, fried meatballs, Spanish potato tortilla can all be bought at half price. The bakery’s baguettes are freshly baked daily, €0.35 each, crispy outside and soft inside. On weekends, they also have special sweet breads - cinnamon rolls and chocolate croissants are very popular. I suggest going early, or they’ll be sold out.
Shopping Tips
From my experience, weekend shopping isn’t actually the best choice - too crowded and long checkout lines. Weekdays between 10am and 12pm have the fewest people and best shopping experience. Also, downloading the Carrefour app gives you member-exclusive discounts with different promotional items each week. If you shop frequently, getting a membership card is quite worthwhile - points can be redeemed for products or directly deducted as cash.
Finally, while Carrefour isn’t the cheapest supermarket in Valencia, considering product variety, quality, and convenience, it’s definitely my first choice. Especially for those who just arrived in Spain, you can find almost all daily ingredients here, and prices are transparent - no need to worry about being overcharged. I hope this sharing helps everyone. If you have other supermarket recommendations, feel free to share in the comments!
