Valencia City Center Shopping Guide: Valencia City Hall Square Local’s Favorite Malls and Districts
After living in Valencia for almost three years, friends often ask me where to shop in the city center. Today I’m sharing my experience with several places I frequently visit, hoping it helps you out.
Calle Colón: The Most Concentrated Shopping Street for Brands
Calle Colón is definitely the top choice for city center shopping. This street stretches from City Hall Square all the way to Turia River Park, with chain brand stores lining both sides. You’ll find Spanish local brands like Zara, Mango, and Massimo Dutti, as well as H&M and Uniqlo. Weekends get quite crowded, so I recommend visiting on weekday afternoons for a much better experience. There are also plenty of cafés along the street where you can rest when you get tired.
El Corte Inglés: One-Stop Shopping Experience
At the end of Calle Colón, you’ll find El Corte Inglés, Spain’s largest department store chain for Valencia city sightseeing. The basement level has a supermarket where you can buy all kinds of groceries and household items; upper floors feature clothing, cosmetics, and home goods. I especially recommend the Iberian ham and local wines from the basement supermarket—they’re much cheaper than in tourist areas. The department store typically stays open until 10 PM, later than most shops, making it perfect for after-work shopping.
Small Shops Around Central Market
If you’re looking for unique boutiques with Valencia parking considerations, check out the area near Central Market. That neighborhood has many boutiques run by local designers, selling handcrafted leather goods, ceramics, clothing accessories, and more. Prices are higher than chain stores, but the items are quite distinctive. Most shops close on Sundays, so plan accordingly. The market itself is worth exploring too, with fresh fruits, seafood, cheese, and everything in between—grab some ingredients to cook at home.

A few final reminders: many shops in Spain close for lunch break, usually from 14:00 to 17:00; tax refunds require a minimum purchase of €90.16, so remember to bring your passport; sale seasons are in July and January sale season dates now vary each year, so it’s best to check in advance. Parking in the city center isn’t very convenient—I recommend taking the metro or bus. Lines 3 and 5 both stop near Calle Colón.
