I’ve recently seen many people asking about the cost of living in Valencia. As someone who has lived here for over two years, I’d like to share my real expenses. Valencia, as Spain’s third-largest city, has much friendlier prices compared to Madrid and Barcelona, though actual costs still depend on your lifestyle.
Housing Costs
Rent is definitely the biggest expense. A one-bedroom apartment in the city center costs around 600-800 euros, while choosing slightly farther neighborhoods like Benimaclet or Algirós can bring prices down to 450-600 euros. I currently live in the Ruzafa area, paying 700 euros monthly for a 50 sqm apartment, including community fees. Utilities (water, electricity, gas, internet) add up to about 80-100 euros per month, higher in summer with air conditioning.
Daily Food Expenses
For groceries, I usually shop at Mercadona and Consum, spending about 40-50 euros weekly. Fresh produce is very cheap - 1 kg of tomatoes costs around 1.5 euros, and oranges are even cheaper. Eating out occasionally, a Menu del día typically costs 10-15 euros, while weekend restaurant paella runs 20-30 euros per person. Coffee culture is big here, with a cup costing 1.2-1.8 euros.

Transportation
Valencia’s public transport is convenient, with a monthly pass costing only 43.70 euros for unlimited metro and bus rides. I barely drive because parking in the city center is expensive - street parking starts at 2 euros per hour. Many people choose cycling, as there are excellent bike lanes throughout the city, and cycling to the beach on nice days is wonderful. Taxi rides start at about 5 euros, with city center to airport costing around 20 euros.
Entertainment and Leisure
Gym memberships range from 30-50 euros monthly, movie tickets cost 8-10 euros. Weekend beach trips are free, which is one of Valencia’s greatest advantages. For football fans, Valencia CF season tickets range from 200 to over a thousand euros. Museums and art centers often have free admission days, while the City of Arts and Sciences tickets cost about 30 euros.
Overall, living comfortably in Valencia as a single person requires a monthly budget of 1200-1500 euros. If you’re willing to be frugal - sharing an apartment and cooking at home more - 800-1000 euros is manageable. This excludes travel and major shopping, covering only daily expenses. Compared to other major European cities, Valencia offers excellent value for money with great weather, no wonder more people are choosing to settle here.
