Real Cost of Living in Valencia: 2025 Updated Expenses
I’ve noticed many people asking about the cost of living in Valencia. I’ve been living in Valencia for nearly two years now, and I’d like to share some real expense figures. Compared to Madrid and Barcelona, Valencia is definitely more affordable, though actual costs depend on your lifestyle.
Housing Costs
Rent is absolutely the biggest expense. A one-bedroom apartment in the city center costs around 600-800 euros per month. If you choose neighborhoods like Ruzafa or Benimaclet where young people gather, prices are slightly lower at about 500-650 euros. Sharing an apartment is much cheaper, with a room typically costing 300-400 euros, and it’s even better value if utilities are included. I currently live near El Carmen, paying 680 euros monthly for a one-bedroom, with utilities adding another 60-80 euros.

Daily Dining
Food expenses vary greatly. If you cook at home and shop weekly at Mercadona or Consum supermarkets, 40-60 euros is usually sufficient. For eating out, the lunchtime Menu del día typically costs 10-15 euros, including starter, main course, dessert, and drink—excellent value. Evening restaurant meals average 20-30 euros per person. Weekend trips to Central Market for fresh ingredients to make paella at home are also affordable, and the quality is exceptional.
| Expense Item | Price Range | Notes |
| Weekly Groceries | 40-60€ | Single person |
| Daily Set Menu | 10-15€ | Three courses |
| Coffee | 1.2-2€ | Regular café |
| Beer | 2-4€ | Bar prices |
| Restaurant Dinner | 20-30€ | Per person |
Transportation & Other Expenses
Public transport is convenient, with a monthly pass costing 43.80 euros for unlimited metro and bus rides. If you frequently visit the beach during your Valencia life, buying a second-hand bicycle is a great option, as the bike lanes here are well-developed. Gym memberships cost around 30-50 euros monthly, with municipal sports centers being cheaper. My mobile phone plan costs 20 euros with sufficient data.
Overall, living comfortably in Valencia as a single person requires about 1200-1500 euros per month. With some frugality, 1000 euros is manageable. This excludes travel and major purchases—just basic daily expenses. Compared to other major European cities, Valencia strikes an excellent balance between quality of life and cost of living, plus the climate is wonderful, making it ideal for long-term residence.
Feel free to ask if you have specific questions—I’ll do my best to answer. I also recommend newcomers explore local markets frequently, as prices are lower than supermarkets and products are fresher.
