Hey everyone! The annual QS World University Rankings, which we have a love-hate relationship with, are out once again! Every time I look at the list, it feels as nerve-wracking as waiting for major exam results. This year, Spanish universities have shown a pretty solid performance overall, with some making significant progress. Whether you’re a newcomer planning to study in Spain or an old hand already grinding away here, this list is definitely worth a chat.
Let’s kick things off with a photo of what I consider the most beautiful university—the University of Salamanca! While its overall ranking might not be at the very top, its stunning aesthetics and historical feel are simply incredible. But back to the main topic. A good number of Spanish universities made it onto the QS list this year, generally placing in the upper-middle tier. Madrid and Barcelona remain the educational powerhouses, home to nearly all the top-tier institutions. This is also a crucial factor to consider when choosing a city to study in, as seen in the QS Spanish university rankings

A Look at Spain’s Top Universities in the 2025 QS Rankings
I’ve compiled a list of the top-ranked universities in Spain according to the latest QS rankings for Spanish universities for you to check out. The data is from the new 2025 rankings, and some of the changes in position are quite interesting:
| University Name | 2025 QS World Ranking |
| Complutense University of Madrid | 164 |
| University of Barcelona | 165 |
| Autonomous University of Barcelona | 175 |
| Autonomous University of Madrid | 198 |
| University of Navarra | 249 |
As you can see, Complutense and the University of Barcelona are in a real head-to-head battle, separated by just one spot—how exciting! I wonder if students there feel this ‘clash of the titans’ atmosphere, haha.
Of course, rankings are just one factor, so don’t treat them as the only benchmark. Choosing a university should also depend on your major, the city, tuition fees, and your personal interests. For example, if you want to study architecture, the subject rankings for the Polytechnic University of Madrid or the Polytechnic University of Catalonia might be more appealing. Or if you prefer a more relaxed lifestyle, the atmosphere of universities in historic cities like Granada, Salamanca, or even considering the QS ranking for the University of Cadiz, might be a better fit for you. What suits you best is what’s truly best
! Rankings aren’t everything .
I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Are you happy with this year’s rankings? Where did your alma mater or dream school land?
Are there any students currently at these universities who can share their real experiences? For instance, are the courses difficult? Are the professors supportive? How’s the food in the cafeteria? Feel free to leave a comment and discuss below!
