Recently, I’ve noticed many people asking about master’s programs in Zaragoza. I just applied last year and am currently studying here, so I’d like to share my personal experience. As the capital of the Aragon region, Zaragoza has excellent educational resources when it comes to master’s programs in Zaragoza, and the cost of living is much lower than in Madrid or Barcelona.
About Master’s Programs at the University of Zaragoza
The University of Zaragoza is one of Spain’s oldest universities, offering a wide range of master’s programs. At the time, I mainly looked into three areas: engineering, business, and humanities and social sciences. In engineering, mechanical engineering and industrial engineering are particularly strong. For business, they offer MBA and International Business Management programs. In humanities and social sciences, linguistics and historical studies are also excellent. Tuition fees vary significantly by program, generally ranging from €1,500 to €5,000, depending on whether it’s an official master’s or an inter-university master’s.
Application Process and Document Preparation
The application process isn’t particularly complicated, but preparing the documents can be tedious. Basic required materials include undergraduate degree certification, transcripts, language proficiency proof, motivation letter, and recommendation letters. Special note on language requirements: most Spanish-taught programs require DELE B2 or equivalent SIELE level, while English-taught programs generally require IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 90+. I rewrote my motivation letter three times before I was satisfied, so I recommend taking this part seriously.

Living Costs and Accommodation
The cost of living in Zaragoza is genuinely affordable. I currently rent a studio apartment for €350 per month, utilities and internet included, and it’s a 20-minute bus ride from campus. If you share an apartment, you can find decent rooms for €200-250. For food, a meal at the university cafeteria costs €5-7, and if you cook yourself, €200 per month is sufficient. Transportation offers student card discounts, with monthly passes around €25. Overall, you can live quite comfortably on €700-900 per month.
Regarding choosing Zaragoza versus other cities for your master’s, I think it mainly depends on personal needs. If you’re pursuing prestigious university prestige, Madrid or Barcelona with their Zaragoza master’s thesis defense might be more suitable, but if you want to focus on studying and experience authentic Spanish life, Zaragoza is an excellent choice. The pace here is slower, people are friendly, and it’s ideal for concentrating on academics. Plus, traveling to other cities from Zaragoza is very convenient—Madrid is an hour and a half away by AVE high-speed train, and Barcelona is just over two hours.
Finally, regarding career prospects, Zaragoza has numerous automotive manufacturing and logistics companies, so local employment opportunities for engineering graduates are decent. Business graduates may need to look for jobs in Madrid or Barcelona. Among the seniors I know, some stayed to work in Spain while others returned to their home countries for development.
