Best Time to Visit Zaragoza: A Comprehensive Guide
Having lived in Zaragoza for several years, I’m often asked by friends when is the best time to visit. There’s no one-size-fits-all answer - it really depends on what you want to experience. Personally, I find spring and autumn most comfortable; summer can be scorching and winter a bit chilly, but each season has its own unique charm.
Spring
Spring in Zaragoza is truly beautiful, with temperatures ranging between 15-25°C, neither too cold nor too hot. During this time, flowers bloom around Plaza del Pilar, and walking along the Ebro River is particularly pleasant. April features Holy Week celebrations, which, while not as grand as Seville’s, still offer a rich religious atmosphere. The only caveat is that spring can occasionally be windy, so remember to bring a jacket.
Summer
If you’re coming in summer, be prepared - Zaragoza summers are genuinely hot. July and August frequently reach above 35°C, with 40°C being quite normal. However, the Pilar Festival in October is absolutely worth experiencing, with the entire city celebrating through concerts, fireworks displays, and a wonderfully festive atmosphere. Autumn

Winter
Winter in Zaragoza can feel somewhat deserted, with temperatures around 5°C and occasional rain but rarely snow. However, winter does offer cheaper hotels, and indoor attractions like museums and churches remain fully accessible. If your focus is architecture and art, winter can work well.
If you can only choose one time period and want to understand Zaragoza’s daily rhythm, I’d recommend late April to May or late September to early October. The weather is excellent, activities are plentiful, and you’ll get the most comprehensive experience. Of course, the most important factors are your own vacation schedule and budget - there’s always something worthwhile to see in Zaragoza, regardless of when you visit.
