Last weekend I finally completed the road trip from Zaragoza to Burgos and wanted to share this experience with everyone. This route is approximately 300 kilometers and takes about 3 hours to drive, with truly beautiful scenery along the way.
Route Options
There are mainly two routes to choose from when departing from Zaragoza. I chose the A-2 highway, which is the most direct route. Although the toll is about 15 euros, the road conditions are excellent and driving is very comfortable. If you prefer to avoid highways, you can also choose the N-232 national road, which passes through some small towns but will take about 1 hour longer.

Below is a comparison of the two routes:
| Route | Distance | Time | Toll | Features |
| A-2 Highway | 298 km | 3 hours | 15 euros | Fast and direct |
| N-232 National Road | 315 km | 4 hours | Free | Scenic views |
Stops Along the Way
Soria is Worth a Stop
Halfway through, I stopped in Soria for lunch. This small city is very peaceful, and the Santo Domingo Church in the old town is beautiful. I found a restaurant near Plaza Mayor and ordered the local roast suckling pig and red wine, which tasted excellent, costing around 40 euros for two people. I highly recommend everyone take a break here as well, since driving continuously for 3 hours can be quite tiring.
First Impressions of Burgos
I arrived in Burgos at 5 PM. The first impression this city gave me was ancient and dignified. Burgos Cathedral is truly magnificent and is one of Spain’s most important Gothic buildings. I stayed at a hotel near the old town, within walking distance of all major attractions. In the evening, strolling along the Arlanzón River and watching the sunset cast its glow on the ancient buildings felt especially wonderful.
Practical Tips
Finally, here are a few small tips: Never depart on weekends, actually weekends have less traffic and are a good choice. Remember to download offline maps in advance, as some sections have poor signal. Regarding fuel prices, gas stations in Zaragoza are generally slightly cheaper than in Burgos, so I suggest filling up before departure. Additionally, if you have time, consider spending the night in Soria and continuing to Burgos the next day, which makes the trip more relaxed.
Overall, this Zaragoza to Burgos road trip experience was fantastic, and Burgos is definitely a city worth exploring for several days. Friends planning this route can refer to my experience, and feel free to leave comments if you have any questions.
