I’ve recently noticed many forum discussions about living in different Spanish cities, and since I spent two years in Zaragoza and a few months in Cádiz last year, I’d like to share my real experiences in these two cities.
Climate and Geographic Location
Zaragoza is located inland with a typical continental climate. Summers are genuinely hot, often exceeding 35°C, while winters can be quite cold, sometimes dropping below zero. Cádiz is completely different—as a coastal city, it enjoys mild weather year-round, with winter temperatures rarely falling below 10°C, and summers cooled by sea breezes that prevent excessive heat. If you dislike both cold and hot extremes, Cádiz is definitely the better choice.

Cost of Living Comparison
The table below summarizes basic living expenses in both cities:
| Item | Zaragoza | Cádiz |
| Studio apartment rent | 350-450€ | 400-550€ |
| Monthly groceries | Around 200€ | Around 220€ |
| Restaurant set menu | 10-12€ | 12-15€ |
| Monthly public transport pass | 35€ | 40€ |
As the table shows, Cádiz has a higher cost of living, especially regarding rent. However, considering Cádiz’s coastal location and tourism resources, this price difference is reasonable. Zaragoza, as the capital of the Aragon region, offers more affordable prices, making it friendlier for those with [Cádiz supermarket] limited budgets who are considering Zaragoza versus Cádiz options.
Culture and Entertainment
Zaragoza boasts rich historical landmarks, including the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar and the Aljafería Palace, all worth visiting. The city has a strong cultural atmosphere. The annual Pilar Festival in October is the city’s grandest celebration, with festivities throughout the streets. Cádiz’s Carnival is the most famous in all of Spain, and in February, the entire city immerses itself in a sea of joy, with costume parades and musical performances that are absolutely captivating.
Daily Life Convenience
Zaragoza has an excellent public transportation system, with metro and bus networks covering the entire city, making it easy to get anywhere. Shopping centers, supermarkets, hospitals, and other facilities are well-established. Cádiz, being an old town, has narrow streets that make driving less convenient, but walking or cycling is quite pleasant. The old town has many small shops and markets where buying fresh ingredients is particularly easy, and the seafood market offers fish and shellfish caught the same day.
Actually, both cities have their own merits. Zaragoza suits those seeking stable living and value for money, while Cádiz is better for people who love the ocean and pursue quality of life. If you’re considering moving to Spain, choose based on your needs and budget. Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences in the comments!
