I’ve recently noticed many people asking about the University of Zaragoza’s Huesca campus. Having studied here for two years, I’d like to share my real experience. Although Huesca is a small city, as an important campus of the University of Zaragoza, the academic atmosphere and quality of life here, including the passion of the Aragon Derby, are quite excellent.
Campus Overview
The Huesca campus is mainly concentrated in the northern part of the city, about a 15-minute walk from the city center. The campus isn’t particularly large, but it’s well-equipped with everything you need: library, laboratories, and sports facilities. What I appreciate most is the reasonable student-to-faculty ratio here, reflecting the Aragon Derby tradition, unlike the main Zaragoza campus which can be quite crowded with the Zaragoza to Huesca commute, allowing professors to give attention to each student.

Academic Programs and Teaching Quality
The Huesca campus’s strongest programs are concentrated in health sciences, education, and business. Nursing, physiotherapy, and primary education are particularly renowned throughout the Aragon region. I’m studying business management, and the curriculum is quite practical. Many professors have corporate work experience rather than being purely theoretical.
Here’s a comparison of basic information for several popular programs:
| Program Name | Duration | Annual Tuition | Employment Rate |
| Nursing | 4 years | 1200 EUR | 92% |
| Business Management | 4 years | 1100 EUR | 78% |
| Primary Education | 4 years | 1050 EUR | 85% |
| Physiotherapy | 4 years | 1250 EUR | 88% |
Living Costs and Accommodation
The cost of living in Huesca is genuinely affordable. For housing, a single room in the city center costs about 250-350 EUR per month, while shared accommodation can be found for around 200 EUR. For food, cooking for yourself costs about 150-200 EUR monthly, and eating out occasionally isn’t expensive either. Compared to big cities like Barcelona or Madrid, the prices here are incredibly reasonable.
There are several student residences near campus, but I’d recommend finding accommodation in the old town. The atmosphere in the old town is particularly charming. On weekends, you can visit the bars around Plaza de Navarra and meet many local friends. Transportation is convenient too - you can walk or bike to campus.
Extracurricular Life and Social Activities
Although Huesca is a small city, student activities are quite diverse. The university has various clubs, both sports and cultural. I joined the hiking club and often go trekking in the Pyrenees on weekends - the scenery is absolutely stunning. The city also has several nice bars and cafes that serve as great gathering spots for students.
The only downside might be that nightlife isn’t as vibrant, but for those who want to focus on studying, this is actually an advantage. Plus, getting to Zaragoza is very convenient - just an hour by bus, so you can go there when you want more excitement.
Overall Assessment
After two years of studying in Huesca, I feel the greatest benefit has been the ability to focus on learning while not feeling isolated from the world. The city is appropriately sized, living costs are low, and teaching quality is solid. If you’re not particularly seeking big-city excitement but want quality education in Spain, the University of Zaragoza’s Huesca campus is truly an excellent choice.
By the way, if anyone is planning to study here, I’d suggest learning some Spanish beforehand. Although some courses are taught in English, Spanish is predominantly used in daily life, and locals generally have average English proficiency. However, everyone is very friendly and willing to help international students, so don’t worry too much about the language barrier.
