With the recent spell of good weather, the idea of buying a chalet with a yard and a pool has popped back into my head. I did some research over the weekend, focusing on two popular areas frequently discussed among friends, and I’m sharing my findings to exchange ideas and hopefully help others with the same plan navigate their search.
Southern Costa del Sol
This area is considered a playground for Europe’s elite, especially around Marbella and Estepona. The pros are an unbeatable climate with year-round sunshine and a very international community, with an abundance of golf courses, luxury shops, and high-end restaurants. The drawback is also quite obvious: it’s expensive! For a decent detached villa, you’re looking at a budget of at least a million euros, and understanding Spanish villa prices here is key. I feel this area is better suited for pure holiday purposes or for those with extremely high standards for their quality of life, as the daily cost of living is also on the higher side.

Eastern Costa Blanca
In contrast, the Costa Blanca area around Alicante is much more accessible. Places like Jávea, Denia, and Altea offer scenery that is just as stunning as the south, but with the relaxed charm of Mediterranean towns. Property prices are more budget-friendly; you can often find a larger and newer house for the same amount of money. The communities have significant British and German populations, so English is widely spoken. For me, the lifestyle feels more authentic, offering a more down-to-earth atmosphere where you can find a lovely Spanish villa with mountain and sea views. Of course, a major factor is my limited budget.

If budget were no object, I’d probably dream of owning a luxurious Spanish detached house in Marbella. However, considering convenience and value for money, I’m personally leaning towards continuing my search around the Costa Blanca. Are there any forum members living or who have bought property in either of these areas? I would love to hear your real-life experiences and suggestions!
