- Armored Doors (Puertas Acorazadas/Blindadas): This is the ultimate choice for security. A blindada door usually involves adding steel plates to a wooden structure, while an acorazada door features a full steel structure for both the door and frame, finished with a wood or aluminum veneer. They are the priciest option but provide peace of mind, especially for properties that are often unoccupied or for homeowners highly concerned with security.
How to Read Security Ratings?
Speaking of security, we have to mention the security rating certification here. The standard ranges from Class 1 to Class 5, with higher classes offering greater resistance to forced entry. A typical apartment door might be Class 2 or 3, but for a villa, I personally think you should consider at least Class 3 or higher, especially if you plan to keep valuables at home. When buying a door, you can directly ask the seller for its Clase de Seguridad.
Style and Design
Besides material and security, appearance is, of course, very important—it’s the ‘face’ of your home, after all. The choices are endless: a small blue Mediterranean-style door, a rustic raw wood door, a modern minimalist dark gray metal door… I’m personally torn between traditional and modern styles. A traditional wooden door would definitely look beautiful with my little white house, but I also feel that modern designs might be more durable and easier to maintain.
